Keeping your mouth healthy sometimes means repairing a tooth or replacing one you have lost. When a tooth needs repair, we may recommend a dental crown. When a tooth is missing, we may talk with you about a dental bridge to replace it and complete your smile.

Either way, we want to help you have a healthy smile you are glad to show, and keep it for a lifetime.

When a damaged tooth needs a crown

Some damage is more than a filling can repair. Dr. Corn will likely recommend a crown when a filling cannot fix damage from:

  • a fracture
  • an injury
  • decay
  • a dental infection

A crown restores the function of your natural tooth. Once your new crown is in place, you can eat and chew with confidence again.

Getting your crown in two appointments

A crown is typically completed in two appointments, with a temporary crown in between:

  1. First appointment. Dr. Corn prepares your tooth for its new crown and makes a temporary crown for you to wear.
  2. In between. You wear the temporary crown while your permanent crown is made at a dental laboratory. We work with dental labs in the area.
  3. Second appointment. You return in a few weeks, and we place your final crown.

When you leave that second appointment, you have a restoration you can trust and rely on.

Replacing missing teeth with a bridge

If you are missing one or more teeth next to each other, a dental bridge may be a good solution. A bridge uses your healthy teeth as anchors: crowns placed on those teeth support one or more replacement teeth that fill the gap.

Dr. Corn carefully designs your bridge to complement your smile and restore your bite, so the replacement teeth fit in with the teeth around them.

Keeping your anchor crowns clean is critical to the health and longevity of your bridge. A consistent routine at home and regular checkups with us both matter, because the bridge depends on the teeth that hold it.

Dental implants can also anchor a bridge. Along with restoring your smile, implants help keep your bone healthy, which gives your bridge even greater longevity. We can tell you whether implants are a good option for your needs. If you choose them, Dr. Corn guides you through treatment from start to finish.

Talking through your options with Dr. Corn

When a tooth needs repair, there is often more than one way to treat it. Dr. Corn takes the time to go over your treatment options with you, so you can choose the procedure that is right for your needs. You will know what each option involves before you decide.

You can talk with us about your options at either of our offices, in Franklin or Edinburgh.

Questions about crowns and bridges

Will my crown match my natural teeth?

Yes. Dr. Corn customizes your crown to match the shape, form and look of your natural tooth.

How do I care for a crown?

You brush and floss as you are used to doing, which makes a crown easy to care for.

What happens if I put off repairing a damaged tooth?

Without treatment, a tooth that needs repair is likely to get worse and lead to more damage over time. We recommend having it repaired rather than waiting.
