Tooth extractions in Franklin and Edinburgh
When a tooth cannot be saved, Dr. Nathan Corn can usually take it out right here in our office. He stays with you through the whole procedure, then helps you decide how to replace the tooth.
When a tooth needs to come out
Our aim is to help you keep your natural teeth for a lifetime. Even so, some situations call for removing a tooth:
- A tooth that cannot be repaired. When decay or damage is severe enough that root canal therapy cannot save the tooth, taking it out is the next step.
- A tooth you have chosen to replace. If a tooth is compromised and you decide to restore it with a dental implant, the old tooth comes out first.
- A serious injury. Severe trauma can damage a tooth too badly to keep.
- Wisdom teeth. Third molars that have not come in properly may need to be removed.
Your extraction happens here, with our team
If a tooth has to come out, you usually will not have to go anywhere new for it. Dr. Corn’s training allows him to handle most extractions here in our office, with the team you already trust.
On the day of your extraction:
- Dr. Corn uses dental anesthetic, so you should not feel anything during the procedure except some slight pressure.
- He clears his schedule for your appointment and stays with you from start to finish, so the dentist who begins your extraction is the one who completes it.
- You are never left waiting for him partway through, which keeps the procedure smooth and efficient.
Looking after the area at home
Dr. Corn gives you post-operative instructions specific to your extraction, so you know how to care for the area while it heals.
If you have a question or a concern during your recovery, call the office where you were seen. Our team will talk it through with you.
Planning to replace the tooth
Losing a tooth brings new everyday challenges. Chewing your food properly can become harder, and you may feel less confident talking or smiling in front of other people.
It affects your oral health too. Your healthy teeth begin to drift into the open space, and without a root to support, the bone where the tooth was starts to dissolve, or resorb.
That is why it is best to replace a tooth as soon as you can. Dr. Corn helps you through the extraction itself, then talks with you about your replacement options and helps you decide which one suits your needs best. Depending on your mouth, that may be a dental implant, a bridge or dentures and partials.
From the extraction to your recovery to the plan for a new tooth, you work with the same team the whole way.
If a tooth is bothering you, or you have been told it may need to come out, request an appointment so we can take a look, or call our Franklin office at (317) 736-9546 or our Edinburgh office at (812) 220-2676.
Questions about extractions
Can my tooth be saved instead of pulled?
Often, yes. Dr. Corn always does his best to keep your natural tooth, and root canal therapy can often save a tooth that is decayed or injured. He recommends an extraction when the tooth cannot be saved.
Does Dr. Corn remove wisdom teeth?
For wisdom teeth that have not come in properly, Dr. Corn refers you to an oral surgeon, who takes care of that extraction.
