Care for everyone from age 1 to 100

We see patients from age 1 to 100, so your whole family can come to us, at our Franklin office or our Edinburgh office, whichever suits you.

You get one-on-one attention from Dr. Nathan Corn and treatment planned around your needs. We offer a wide range of preventive, restorative and cosmetic care for everyone in the family.

Dr. Corn earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. His training lets him offer a broad range of services that you may not find at every practice, so you will rarely need to be referred elsewhere for your care.

Cleanings and checkups every six months

Prevention is the foundation of a healthy mouth. Cleanings and checkups every six months help you avoid many dental problems, including gum disease, tooth decay and cavities.

Some problems need more than a cleaning. We also offer night guards and splints to treat TMJ, or temporomandibular joint disorder, and chronic clenching and grinding of the teeth, a problem known as bruxism.

Children should see the dentist every six months too. We like to see a child for the first time around age one, although it is never too late to start. From that first visit, we work on a relationship with your child, so that the dentist becomes someone familiar and, we hope, someone they look forward to seeing.

Gum disease, found early and treated

The health of your gums is tied to the health of the rest of your body. The bacteria that cause gum disease are also associated with diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke and cardiovascular disease. Gum disease is also the leading cause of tooth loss in American adults.

We look for gum disease at every routine exam, so that if it does develop, we can find it as early as possible.

  • Gingivitis is the earliest stage. It can often be managed with a professional cleaning and some changes to how you care for your teeth at home.
  • Periodontitis is the advanced stage. A deep cleaning below the gum line removes the plaque and tartar causing the infection, and depending on your needs, Dr. Corn may recommend more treatment, such as antibiotic therapy.

There is no cure for periodontitis. Extra cleaning appointments through the year help keep it under control.

Repair or replacement when a tooth needs it

Our restorative care covers both repairing teeth and replacing them, including crowns and bridges, root canal therapy and dentures and partials. We choose our dental materials and the dental laboratories we work with so that each restoration is well made and looks natural.

Whatever the work, you get individual care and personal attention from our team at every visit.

Questions about general dentistry

How long will my first visit take, and will I get a cleaning?

Plan on about 60 minutes. Dr. Corn spends much of that time getting to know you, talking through your concerns and goals, and examining your teeth and mouth. If we find no concerns about gum disease, we try to finish your first cleaning in the same visit. If it has been a while since your last cleaning, you may need a more thorough one that takes extra time, and we schedule it for your next appointment. We never judge how long it has been.

Are dental x-rays safe, and how often do I need them?

Our x-rays are digital. They use less radiation than film x-rays. They let Dr. Corn see inside and between your teeth to find decay or gum disease the naked eye can miss, early enough to treat with the least invasive, least costly care. We recommend x-rays at least once a year, including at your first visit. Digital images are ready to view right away, so we can make recommendations sooner, and they need no harsh developing chemicals.

Is a cleaning every six months worth it if nothing hurts?

Yes. Regular visits help stop costly problems like gum disease and tooth decay before they start. Finding gum disease, decay or oral cancer early gives you the best chance of treating it with a less invasive, less costly procedure. If your plan covers preventive visits at 100%, with no other cost to you, they are a benefit worth using.
